Upside Down World

Hello everyone,

Finished my eighth week of shingles. Doing much better this week although Wednesday was painful. I managed to clean my kitchen this week. Hey!

A while back, my wife and I drove the local interstate to see four LEOs patrolling the freeway looking for speeders. We headed for the mall in their town and decided on lunch at a national sit-down restaurant. A waiter was running back into the store when we arrived. We sat at his table and I asked what was he doing?

He had a dine and dash and hoped to catch them. I admonished him by explaining under no circumstance should he do that. He explained the local police would not help and the last time it happened, they took forty-five minutes to make a report. He was tired of people getting away with it. This made me think why are the police on an interstate catching speeders trying to bypass their city instead of protecting workers and the people of the city.

My father once told me about the first time he drove into Cleveland on Lakeshore Boulevard. The police pulled him over for driving too slow and holding up traffic. To give you an idea of my dad’s driving, during his funeral procession we kept a twenty-five-mile an hour pace. I turned to my brother and said, “This is the slowest dad ever went in a car.” He chuckled in agreement.

There was a time police helped average citizens to meet their goals. Today it seems more about regulating the population to meet a specific ideal. To be clear, it is not the police’s fault. It is the regulations and guidelines set forth by the politicians that mandate the police action against the strength of the community.

Did I mention, my dog is a Karen? This week she used a new trick on me several times. I went upstairs of our split level. She waited until the top step, then she ran down to the lower level and rang her bell to go outside. The first time, I made the mistake of backtracking and letting her out. After that, I did my business in the bathroom and let her do hers. I came down to “I want to see the manager” look from her.
